The 2010 convention of the Democratic Woman's Club of Kentucky will be held September 30 - October 2, 2010 at the Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center, Louisville, Kentucky and is being hosted by the Jefferson County Democratic Woman's Club. Accommodations are reserved at the Fern Valley Hotel, off I-65 at Fern Valley Road, Louisville, KY. Group room rate is $80.95 plus tax for a single or double. For reservations, please call (502) 964-3311 and ask for the Democratic Woman's Club block of rooms.
REGISTRATION:
A registration form is attached to this email and convention packets are being mailed today to Club Presidents, Past State Presidents, Executive Officers, District Officers, and Committee Chairs. Feel free to share this email with anyone who may be interested in attending this year's convention. If you have never attended, it is a wonderful way to network with other democratic women and to meet and hear from your elected officials and leaders. This year's convention will feature a workshop on Social Networking, an Empowering Women luncheon, and the annual banquet with Governor Beshear and Mayor Abramson headlining as keynote speakers. Many other speakers are scheduled throughout the convention including Attorney General and U.S. Senate nominee Jack Conway.
ELECTIONS:
Offices up for election this year are President, 2nd Vice President, Treasurer and 1st Member at Large.
SILENT AUCTION:
All local clubs are asked to support the work of the Democratic Woman's Club of Kentucky by making a donation to the 2010 Convention Silent Auction. Bring at least 1 item for the silent auction and deliver to the convention site on Thursday, September 30, 2010.
CONVENTION JOURNAL:
Now is the time to begin selling ads for the Convention Journal. Prices are the same as in years past: $400 for full page, $250 for half page, $125 for 1/4 page and $50 for business card size. Cash prizes are given to the top 3 selling clubs so be sure to get your ads in right away. Deadline is August 31, 2010. Club Presidents, District Directors, and State Officers: Please provide a photo and a short biography of yourself to be in included in the journal. Send to Susan Campbell at susancampbell@timesleader.net.
Memorials to be included in the journal also should be provided to Susan Campbell for club members who have passed away during the year. Resolutions for deceased club members should be provided to Romanza Johnson at 3341 Cemetery Road, Bowling Green, KY 42103 or romanzaj@insightbb.com
SCRAPBOOK & POSTER CONTESTS:
Please refer to the handbook for the guidelines for the Poster and Scrapbook contests. Your club could be a winner of the cash prizes awarded. Be sure to follow this year's theme "Democratic Women....Campaigning from the Kitchen to the Capitol".
SCORECARDS:
Official scorecards are included in the convention packets being mailed out. Be sure your club follows the guidelines as set out in the handbook to be included in the Rooster Booster and Scorecard contests. Deadline is August 31, 2010.
DOOR PRIZES:
Each local club is asked to bring at least 1 item to be given away as a door prize.
CREDENTIALS:
Voting credentials for club presidents, delegates and alternates are being mailed to the club presidents by the Treasurer, Kathy Jo Stubblefield. All other voting members will receive their credentials at the convention site.
